Tips
These two pylons - one with sailors, the other with soldiers - were intended to serve as gates to the “Parkway Gardens”. They were moved to accommodate construction of the Vine Street Expressway, but still mark the entrance to the park from the city. One of the inscriptions reads: “By giving freedom to the slave, we assure freedom to the free.”
