Gogolin, located in the Opole Voivodeship, is a city famous for its lime burning and lime industry at the end of the 20th century. This is evidenced by the three shaft furnaces preserved in the city center, built in 1874 by Wilhelm Dombrovsky, called the Dombrovsky Furnaces. The headquarters of Śląskie Zakłady Wapiennicze S.A. was located in Gogolin, and the lime burning process was completed in this city in 1987. Five years later, in 1992, the lime industry plants were completely closed, and the facilities and areas were taken over by the Gogolin commune in 1999, thanks to which three of Wilhelm Dombrovsky's kilns from 1874 have been preserved to this day.

The lime burning center operated in the center of Gogolin for over 120 years. The lime industry here was based on seven shaft kilns, six ring kilns, calcium fertilizer mills, as well as a power plant, workshops, administrative buildings and a railway siding.
