Finikounda (Greek: Φοινικούντα (f. sg.), also Finikounta, Foinikounta, older also Finikous Φοινικούς (m. sg.)) is a Greek port and seaside resort in Messinia. Together with some surrounding settlements, it forms a local community in the municipal district of Methoni in the municipality of Pylos-Nestoras. Under the old name Paralia Lachanadas Παραλία Λαχανάδας, the place was recognized as a rural municipality (kinotita) in 1929 and renamed in 1930. In 1997 it was incorporated into Methoni, and in 2011 Finikounda and Methoni were merged into the new municipality of Pylos-Nestor. In 2011, the village itself had a population of 592[1]. Since the beginning of the 21st century and the completion of the Methoni-Koroni coastal road, Finikounda has developed into a tourist resort. Numerous resorts, hotels and holiday homes have been built, as well as bars, restaurants and shopping centers.
