The floodplain is that land that goes between the shore and the embankment of a river. It is an important drainage basin for water when the river is in flood. For this reason it is also a very fertile soil, because it takes the silty material that comes from the river. This stretch of the left bank of the Po river is particularly scenic and pleasant to cross.
