    Hiking

Most people visit this area of Maui for the Nakalele Blowhole and usually take the short path from the south. But actually this path has a lot more to offer and is still not a really long hike! Even though the name might sound dangerous, it's not at all, and you will find yourself walking through a fascinating environment of huge boulders that have eroded over countless years.

Embark on the Acid War Zone Trail, an easy 1.1 miles (1.8 km) hike that takes you through an otherworldly landscape shaped by ocean erosion on lava stone. You will gain about 149 feet (45 metres) in elevation over an estimated 30 minutes, offering panoramic views of the rugged Maui coastline. The terrain is rocky and uneven, featuring unique ridges and shapes as you make your way towards the dramatic Nakalele Blowhole.

When planning your visit, remember that the trail is largely exposed to the sun, so bring plenty of water and consider avoiding the intense midday heat. The rocky and uneven ground requires proper closed-toed shoes for safe navigation. Be especially careful near the Nakalele Blowhole, as strong, unpredictable waves and dangerous surf are common; always stay on dry rocks to ensure your safety.

This route is notable for its unique geological features, showcasing how centuries of ocean forces have sculpted the lava rock into its distinctive forms. The impressive Nakalele Blowhole is a highlight, known for its powerful sprays of ocean water that can shoot high into the air. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the raw power of nature along the coastline.
