The sand mining in the FingerTipp & Daumengrün sand pit by the lime-sandstone works in Bookholzberg dates back years. Then, with a social project, the fingerprint of a thumb was modeled into the landscape. Since 2008, the Fuhrenkamp protection association from Ganderkesee has kept the sand pit free of woody growth, which is called Entkusseln (de-shrubbing). This preserves an important habitat for insects. More information can be found at fuhrenkamp-schutzverein.de
