In 1900, the lime produced in Beaumont's 3 kilns was transported by carts. When the horses were confiscated during the First World War, they were transported via the Ourthe Canal to Esneux station by a convoy of 'bèchètes' (ships with their bows raised). The boats were pulled along the shore by manpower. As long as production remained a local affair that gave work to the residents, the local residents had nothing to complain about. But when the site was sold in 1925 and there were expansion plans, the population opposed this. The expansion would have led to more nuisance: smoke, dust, stench, explosion noise, damage to the landscape, etc. without any real benefit for local residents. In 1929 the kilns were closed for good, due to competition from cement kilns and larger capacity kilns.
