The plaque placed near the entrance to the Valzo forest is intriguing for the research deriving from its name "Bosco Carmela Cortini". In 2008, Prof. Franco Pedrotti purchased an old rural house in Valzo and the adjoining 32-hectare forest on the slopes of Mount Capitone. The forest was registered in the name of Prof. Pedrotti's wife, Prof. Carmela Cortini, professor of Systematic Botany at the University of Camerino. Prof. Pedrotti has allocated the entire property to botanical and forest ecology research.
