Road Cycling Highlight
With the observation tower built in 2011 on the Mainhafen in Kostheim, the state capital of Wiesbaden marks the entrance of the regional park on its urban area. The view from the 20-meter high tower conveys impressions of the Main just before the confluence with the Rhine, the Kostheimer lock, the bridge to Ginsheim-Gustavsburg and Alt-Kostheim with its juxtaposition of commerce and living. In the distance you can see Mainz, Wiesbaden and the Taunus. The three-legged tower was built as a steel construction, based on the industrial character of the location. The connecting element between Uferweg and Turm is a slightly rising 25 m long wood-planked walkway that leads to the staircase of the triangularly arranged spiral staircase. The 80 steps lead up to the viewing platform. At the level of the riverside path, a forecourt was set up on which two benches, bicycle racks, waste bins and the Regional Park Info Stele are located. As a precautionary measure, a gate system is integrated at the beginning of the bridge. 🚴♂️akkzeitung.de/201109281626/neuigkeiten/einweihung-des-aussichtsturms-am-mainhafen-in-kostheim.html
