Main Harbor Observation Tower – Kostheim/WI 🚴‍♂️

With the observation tower built in 2011 at the Main Harbor in Kostheim, the state capital of Wiesbaden marks the entrance to the regional park within its municipal area. The view from the 20-meter-high tower provides impressions of the Main River just before it flows into the Rhine, of the Kostheim Lock, the bridge to Ginsheim-Gustavsburg, and of old Kostheim with its juxtaposition of commercial and residential areas. Mainz, Wiesbaden, and the Taunus Mountains can be seen in the distance. The three-legged tower was constructed as a steel structure, in keeping with the industrial character of the location. The connecting element between the riverside path and the tower is a gently sloping 25-meter-long wooden plank walkway that leads to the stairs leading up to the triangular spiral staircase. The 80 steps then lead up to the observation deck. A forecourt was created at the level of the riverside path, featuring two benches, bicycle racks, trash cans, and the regional park information column. A gate system has been integrated at the beginning of the walkway as a safety measure. 🚴‍♂️
