ʻImiloa Astronomy Center has an award-winning garden in the heart of Hilo that gives visitors an idea of what Hawaiʻi's native ecosystems were like before the island was settled in by outside counties. The curated landscape is a living exhibit of Native endemic, indigenous, and Polynesian-introduced plants. These plants are often referred to as "canoe plants." Visitors can walk the pathways and see the plants. Walk-in visitors are welcome, and the 'Imiloa Garden is open Wednesday–Sunday from 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
