Gros Bessillon is the highest peak in Center Var, isolated from other peaks around twenty kilometers around. The Bessillon forest is very vast and covers the entire massif. The surrounding villages are Barjols and Pontevès to the northwest, Cotignac to the east and Correns to the south. To the east of the massif is the Saint-Joseph du Bessillon monastery, site of an apparition of Saint Joseph

Gros Bessillon: peaking at 813 m, it is the highest peak in the massif and in the Centre-Var. We discovered a panorama stretching from the Maures massif to the Sainte-Victoire mountain and from the Sainte-Baume massif to the Digne Prealps. This place with its privileged location made it possible to install a lookout post and an orientation table at the top. The lack of care taken in this work caused the destruction1 of a rare plant site, the Lobel broom (Genista lobelii), although protected by law 2. This station was the northernmost known in the department. The limestone nature (Middle Oxfordian) has formed, by erosion, numerous rocks with different shapes such as pierced rocks or dolomites;
