The Lösershag is part of the Black Mountains. It is a former volcanic cone with scree forests in the summit area."The Black Mountains are part of the High Rhön, more specifically the Southern High Rhön, located southwest of the Kreuzberg Group and thus representing the southernmost part of the High Rhön. The area has been largely protected by the Black Mountains Nature Reserve, the second largest in Bavaria outside the Alps, since 1993 to prevent reforestation with coniferous forests."
