Just downstream from Placer Point, placer was mined between 1905 and 1942. Placer deposits occur when small particles of valuable minerals flow down a river or stream and mix with sediments. The deposits like here in the river bend could contain gold and some gold was mined back in the day, but not enough to be profitable.
Today you can hike down to the Green River and enjoy the scenery or get here with your boat. There is also an interesting information board showing the local fish.
