The small town of Stanley is located in the Sawtooth Valley and surrounded by miles and miles of wilderness. It was officially founded in 1919, but fur trappers discovered the area around the Stanley Basin already in the 1820s. There are less than 70 people living in Stanley, but you will find a general store, a gas station and some accommodation. Despite its remoteness, prices for groceries are pretty fair.

Stanley is a great basecamp for hikes and adventures in the Sawtooth Wilderness and is situated in the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve.
