These ruins do not belong to a castle or a tower against pirates. In reality, you are in front of tower no. 213 of the old Barcelona–La Jonquera optical telegraph line, operational around 1850.
Before the telephone and the electric telegraph, messages traveled from tower to tower using coded visual signals. From Montagut, the tower of Calella could be seen, 7.7 km away, and that of Puigmarí, 11.6 km away. An operator observed the received signal and reproduced it so that the message could continue its journey.
