Planned in 1934 after an architect competition by Fritz Höger, the water tower was supposed to improve the quality and quantity of drinking water in the wider surrounding area. In particular, the naval plant z .. in Schillig had to be adequately supplied. For the National Socialists, this was also a suitable propaganda tool ("memorial of our people by the sea") to combat unemployment and water shortages for many farms (such as dairies).
