A hanging composed of ten tapestries, Le Chant du Monde is considered the masterpiece of Jean Lurçat (1892-1966).
Undertaken in 1957 in Aubusson, a town in the Creuse region renowned since the 16th century for the quality of the work of its horseshoe makers, the hanging is woven over approximately a decade, by three workshops (Tabard, Picaud and Goubely).
