At this junction, the Archuleta Trail meets with the long-distance Continental Divide Trail (CDT) that stretches from Mexico to Canada. You can follow the CDT to the west to get to Spotted Lake which is just around the corner. The Archuleta Trail is a nice option to get off the CDT to Big Meadows Reservoir with a large parking lot.
