I came on my tour of Germany through Bad Zurzach
Zurzachs as place of pilgrimage after the death of the holy Verena in the year 344 n. Chr. The burial place of the holy Verena, the Verenamünster, belongs to the nicest churches in the canton Aargau The small health resort bath Zurzach lies in the pictorial Rhine landscape of the bath canton Aargau. The waterways and Saint Verena have shaped the place. Today, the thermal bath, hiking and cycling routes as well as the charming village center are points of attraction.

While Bad Zurzach itself is situated at 393 meters along the Rhine, offering many pleasant riverside walks, more challenging hikes with significant elevation gain can be found in the nearby hills and the foothills of the Black Forest. These routes often provide rewarding viewpoints over the Rhine Valley and into Germany. Hikers looking for a strenuous workout should explore trails that ascend into the surrounding forested areas rather than sticking solely to the riverbanks.

Where can hikers find parking near the trails in Bad Zurzach?

Parking is generally available in Bad Zurzach, particularly near the thermal baths and the town center. For direct access to hiking trails, look for designated parking areas closer to the outskirts of the village or at trailheads leading into the surrounding nature. It's advisable to arrive early, especially on weekends or during peak season, as popular spots can fill up quickly.

How accessible are Bad Zurzach's hiking trails via public transport?

Bad Zurzach is well-served by public transport, with its own railway station on the Winterthur to Koblenz line. Many trails are easily accessible directly from the station or a short walk from bus stops within the village. Are there family-friendly walks suitable for children in Bad Zurzach?

Yes, Bad Zurzach offers several family-friendly walking routes. The paths along the Rhine are generally flat and well-maintained, perfect for strollers or younger children. Are dogs allowed on the hiking trails in Bad Zurzach?

Most hiking trails in and around Bad Zurzach are dog-friendly, provided dogs are kept on a leash, especially in nature reserves or areas with livestock. What are the best viewpoints in Bad Zurzach for scenic photography?
