    Stork Tower

The stork tower with the stepped gable is the landmark of Nittenau, shown in the Merian engraving from 1644, probably Gothic in origin.

It is impossible to say how often it has completely or partially burned down in the past, but in any case it too fell victim to the flames in the total fire in Nittenau in July 1779. It was rebuilt and withstood fire in 1805. In 1808 it was reported that three meat banks were attached to it.

Until around 1900, the stork tower always included the prison and bread shops; in 1905 there was talk of the "market clerk's apartment with goods and weighing vault".

Later, a syringe and other fire department equipment were housed there for a few years. Since January 1, 1959, the Marienapotheke has been located in the building next to the Storchenturm. The stork tower and the pharmacy building are the property of the city.

      The landmark of Nittenau!

Probably Gothic in origin, the tower burned down several times, in 1779 in total. From 1840 market clerk's apartment with prison and bread shop. The house attached to the west also belonged to the tower.
