The Donald J. Lamoreaux Park Loop affords visitors a pleasant walk along the Grand River, which is the longest river in Michigan. The city of Grand Rapids was named after the river, because historically, the river featured massive rapids that covered areas up to 300 yards wide and 10 to 15 feet tall. These rapids no longer exist due to damming in the mid-1800s, but their legacy remains.
