Hiking
There are many ossuaries in the Alpine region, but also on the Iberian peninsula.
As space in the churchyard was limited and there were no other cemeteries, the bones of the deceased were recovered after a while and transferred to ossuaries or chapels on the church grounds. Most of the bones lie in a jumble behind a wall of artfully layered skulls and femurs.
Visitors should not disturb the peace of the dead.
