The typical medieval village of Bibbona, characterized by narrow alleys, stairways and arches, which take us back in time, stands a few km from the sea, surrounded by the characteristic hill villages of Bolgheri, Castagneto Carducci, Campiglia... The town has ancient Etruscan origins, to which an original bronze statuette of a goat dates back, which became the symbol of the town and is now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Florence. In its small center we find the Castle of Bibbona, enclosed by majestic walls and the Parish Church of Sant'Ilario, attested since 1175 and enlarged in the following centuries, which constitutes one of the few Romanesque churches preserved in this area, the only one to have survived from the wars and raids of the Saracen pirates. It was built with local sandstone and contains a marble holy water stoup and some 16th century paintings, including a canvas depicting Saint Hilary and Saint Bartholomew.
