Horrheim was formerly a medieval town and was first mentioned in 771 AD in the charter of the Benedictine Abbey of Lorsch. The town was founded in the mid-13th century by Count Konrad von Vaihingen. All that remains of the town wall is the Horrheimer Türmle, also called the "Bärentürmle". The name probably goes back to the last inhabitant of the tower, a tall man who wore a long coat and, from the perspective of children, also seemed clumsy like a bear. Today, the Bärentürmle houses a small local history museum.
