Horrheim was formerly a medieval town and was first mentioned in AD 771 in the deeds of the Benedictine Abbey in Lorsch. The city was founded in the middle of the 13th century by Count Konrad von Vaihingen. Only the Horrheimer Türmle, also known as the "Bear Tower", remains of the city wall. The name probably goes back to the last inhabitant of the tower: a tall man who wore a long coat and, from the children's point of view, was clumsy as a bear. Today, a small local history museum is housed in the Bärentürmle.
