Hiking

The Ahl Skanse is a historic, rectangular redoubt on the Ahl Hage peninsula southwest of Ebeltoft. The fortification dates from the Gunboat War (1807–1814) and was built for protection against the British Navy. Today, the wooded area is a protected cultural monument. The redoubt is surrounded by ramparts about six meters wide and rises about one to one and a half meters above the surrounding terrain. Historical records suggest that this particular redoubt was likely never actively armed or manned.

At the Ahl Skanse we see a small entrenchment from the
War against England in 1810-14. As part of the fortifications from the Napoleonic Wars, many of these redoubts were built here to protect against the English.
