The Zeeland Bridge, an iconic structure in the Dutch province of Zeeland, provides a crucial connection between the islands of Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland across the Oosterschelde. In the early 1960s it was decided to build this bridge with the aim of improving accessibility within the province and stimulating economic development in the region. Construction began in 1963 and after two years of construction, the bridge was officially opened by Queen Juliana on December 15, 1965.
At the time of its opening, the Zeeland Bridge was the longest bridge in Europe with an impressive length of approximately 5 kilometers, a title it held until 1988. The bridge became a symbol of technical movements and regional solidarity. The architecture of the bridge, which consists of prestressed concrete and a series of spans, is known for its simplicity and functionality, which gives it a streamlined and aesthetic atmosphere.
Over the years, the Zeeland Bridge has become more than just a transit route; it has also become a magnet for tourists and photographers. The panoramic view from the bridge
and the areas is truly breathtaking and offers a beautiful spectacle, especially during sunrise and sunset. The serene landscape combined with the impressive architectural design of the bridge attracts many visitors every year.
