The hotel's first tenant was Béla Reidinger, followed by Károly Bakos and then the legendary József Böczögő, who made the hotel and its cuisine famous throughout the country. Böczögő renovated and modernized the hotel in 1934 at his own expense according to the plans of Ármin Block and Lajos Stimme. At that time, the double street entrance, the shunt opening from the vestibule and the coffee house on the west side were built. On the right side, in the “hall”, were the porter’s room and the telephone boxes. There was a restaurant in the garden, decorated with palm trees and fountains. The ornate Great Hall (later known as the White Hall) housed an elegant restaurant and the cinema was also used as a large ballroom. József Böczögő, who ran several other restaurants and coffee houses in the city as well as the famous Anna Hotel in Tapolca, went bankrupt in 1938 , the city abandoned him and he left the city.

The Janits brothers then took over the hotel and ran it until it was nationalized. After nationalization it became the Kossuth Hotel, which was renamed Avas Hotel in 1953.
The layout of the ground floor of the hotel was changed in 1955-1956, there was a bistro, a nightclub (the "Red"), a grill restaurant, and the White Room acquired the function of a simple restaurant and cafe so-called In "Fapados" they even provided public Catering. Film screenings and later light theater performances also took place in the garden hall, but the palm trees and fountains have disappeared.

The hotel was closed on December 14, 1987. Then, during the years of privatization, many tenants changed among themselves. The condition of the building continued to deteriorate, but in 1998 it became the property of Multicasa Consulting Kft., based in Budapest and with Italian participation. The company committed to completely renovating the building by the end of 1999.

The renovation plans for the building were ready, but work had not yet started. In 2005, the municipality tried to regain its property rights with a lawsuit, but gave up its claim due to the investors' commitments. When the investor decided to finance and certain construction work had begun, the monument protection office stopped the work, which led to the financing bank terminating the loan agreements. For this reason, the contractor withdrew and due to the investor's insolvency, liquidation proceedings were initiated against Multicasa Consulting Kft. in October 2014.
The Avas Szálló building became the property of the MCC (Mathias Corvinus Collegium) in January 2021. In her opinion, the building fits well into the plans of the talent development school because its goal is twofold: creating value and maintaining value. The plans are expected to be ready by June 2023.
