The monastery Neustift is a former abbey of the Premonstratensians in Freising in Bavaria in the diocese of Freising. The monastery is located in the eponymous district Neustift.

It was founded in 1142 by Bishop Otto I von Freising with the support of the Margraves of Austria. First provost, the monastery was raised in 1717 to the abbey. The monastery area was a Hofmark, and possessed the Niedergerichtsbarkeit. As an exclave - it was almost completely enclosed in the area of the Hochstift Freising - it was not under the stewardship of the Prince-Bishop of Freising, but belonged to the duchy / electorate of Bavaria.

The monastery was dissolved in 1803 in the wake of secularization, after the last abbot Kastulus Wohlmuth died in August 1802 and no new one was allowed to be elected. The buildings served as barracks from 1803 to 1905. From 1906 to 1971, it housed a cloth factory as well as apartments and offices. Since 1987, it is the seat of the Landratsamt Freising. The three-storey building complex is located south of the church, built at the end of the 17th century. Southeast of it, the detached monastery library (with preserved coffered ceiling from 1623), east of the monastery building is the "monastery garden" (park). The former ballroom of the monastery is today the boardroom of the district council. West of the monastery the former economy building, now part of the district office.

Easy hike through the streets of the Neustift district of Freising. Idyllic and quiet and sometimes great views. Sometimes it's going uphill.

Nice "facility", one day a week there is a market with regional products, often also in organic quality. And back then there was also a pizzeria in the adjacent green belt, very tasty with a beer garden.
