The Klaipėda radio and television station, the so-called 200 m high Giruli TV tower, was built in 1957. At first, it was rebroadcast by radio stations, and later by Lithuanian television. In 1991, during the night from January 12th to 13th, the Soviet army occupied the Vilnius TV tower. That night, Klaipėda residents also stood guard at the Girulii TV tower. A studio was set up in the basement of the Giruliu station, from which information was provided about the situation in Vilnius and throughout Lithuania. Today, the television tower rebroadcasts ten radio stations and all television programs seen in the country.
