The most exotic electricity cabin in Flanders is located on Fransmansplein in Koekelare. During the renovation of the village center in the 1980s, the electricity cabin was remarkably renovated: it was given the design of a Thai temple.
The love for Thailand came from the then alderman for Tourism and later mayor Walther Holvoet. He visited the country several times a year and maintained close ties with several Thai prominent figures. During the village center renovation, he engaged a Thai architecture student from Leuven to design a temple. The structure was baptized the 'Sala Thai'.
