    Mountain biking

Rumoured to have existed since prehistory, the Carrier's Way was used by pack pony drivers (carriers) transporting smelted lead to the River Tyne during the 17th century.

Their industry gave us this wonderful little trail across Burntshieldhaugh Fell.

I did a shortened version of this route today, just over 8 miles. I did want to do the whole route but the flies and midgies where relentless. A nice enjoyable route, maybe I will get to complete the whole route at some point.

Did this a few years ago and it's not a well defined route but can be followed if you're careful. The turn onto the bridleway a little further on to take you towards the Baybridge road/track is easy to miss and if you do you're in the bottom of the valley very quickly.
