Not technical, but this (assuming you're running it as a descent) is a great little slice of the Salter's Road: an ancient border-crossing trail dating back to the days when salt was one of the most precious commodities there was. Once salt trading had passed into history, the route was used for livestock.

Hard going if climbing out of Alnham - if you're not pushing at some point, you're a very strong rider.

July 2024: Unrideable in ascent (so big mistake to flip my route(!)). The rise out of Alnham was overgrown, the route barely visible. Lots of nettles & thistles. Ended up being nearly 800m of pushing, interspersed with short bursts of riding. There don't appear to be any alternative routes to bypass this section. Eventually gives way to gravel roads when ridden in ascent.
