The “Red Rooster” in the eastern area of the old town was built around 1300. It is the oldest and only preserved defense tower in the city of Wildungen. It was used as part of the city fortifications, as a lookout and also as a prison.

The Roter Hahn city tower is somewhat hidden on the edge of the old town of Bad Wildungen, at least when looking for its foundation. The door with a knob that looks locked from the outside should not deter people from going up the stairs to it. When I visited the tower, the lock was set to wind. From the top you have a good all-round view, especially of the southern valley of the old town, which lies on a ridge, with the Uhrenbach, which merges with the Sonderbach and flows below the train station into the Wilde, which flows north of the old town and south of Altwildungen.
