St. Johannes Baptist is the Roman Catholic parish church in Rietberg. There was already a single-nave parish church in Rietberg in the 15th century. This was struck by lightning on July 24, 1457 and burned down. The new building was started by Count Johann von Rietberg and lasted for several decades, as a foundation for the vaults of the church can be found in 1516.
In 1654/59 two side aisles were added to the church. In 1838 part of the church collapsed. During the reconstruction period, services took place in the neighboring Franciscan monastery. In 1897 the nave collapsed again and had to be rebuilt. But first everything between the choir and the tower was torn down in order to build the main building on more solid foundations.

The parish church looks very beautiful and is a very nice place to retreat and reflect.

St. John the Baptist is a Catholic parish church in the old town of Rietberg. Built in the 15th century, two side aisles were added between 1654 and 1659. After partial collapses in 1838 and 1897, further conservation measures were required.
