The Deep Well is still considered a technical masterpiece to this day. In a construction period of six years, 1543 to 1549, a 92 meter deep shaft was excavated with great effort, which was secured step by step with massive, custom-made sandstone blocks. Until November 1902, the Deep Well was the only drinking water supply for Betzenstein and the surrounding area. The fountain and fountain house have been completely preserved.
