SHUNKODEN - Hall for the Sacred Mirror, the building was constructed in 1915 order to enshire the Sacred Mirror (one of the Three Imperial Regalia of Japan) during the enthronement ceremony of Taisho emperor.

The Shunkōden is a distinct, smaller building within the Kyoto Imperial Palace grounds notable for its historical use in modern Imperial ceremonies. Unlike the other ancient structures that replicate Heian-period architecture, the Shunkōden was specifically constructed in 1915 for the Enthronement Ceremony of Emperor Taishō. Its primary purpose was to house the Sacred Mirror (Yata no Kagami), one of the Three Imperial Regalia, which was temporarily brought from Tokyo for the accession rites. This makes the Shunkōden an important landmark for understanding the continuity of imperial tradition into the 20th century. While visitors cannot enter the building, its unique function and slightly different, copper-shingled roof style (compared to the cypress bark roofs of older halls) make it a key stop on the palace tour.
