Loquitz Viaduct

old bridge of the former railway line Ludwigsstadt-Lehesten. The distance
was shut down due to the internal German border demarcation, dismantled and partially blown up, but parts of the route can still be committed and driven.

On the border between Bavaria and Thuringia (formerly Sachsen-Meiningen) crossed the route, which was opened in 1885, the river Loquitz and made the construction of a railway bridge necessary. The Loquitz Viaduct is probably the only arch bridge made of diabase and slate worldwide. The building material of the bridge came from the ducal break to Lehesten (now Schieferpark Lehesten) and the nearby Krummholzhammer. In 1935, the bridge was a parapet made of concrete.In 1952, the on the Thuringian side (then GDR) lying area of the railway line was rebuilt. Part of the former route is now used as a hiking trail "Schieferpfad - In the footsteps of the blue gold".
