Oratory of San Bernardo (14th - 15th century)
Country oratory of San Bernardo, also known as della Mora, is located on the ancient road that led from Novara to Valsesia, before the bridge that crosses the Roggia Mora, on the road that leads from the center of Briona to the cemetery.
The small oratory is the best complex in Briona and presents a superb example of French-style painting from the second half of the 15th century. The frescoes on the wall behind the altar, the work of an anonymous painter, represent the Madonna del Latte, the Saints Bernard of Mentone, Stefano and Sebastiano, dominated by the Crucifixion. Those of the barrel vault with the twelve prophets and the side walls with various saints are a refined example of late Gothic painting, dated 1 September 1463, they are the work of Giovanni and Luca De Campo. Among the saints on the right wall there is one of the rare representations of San Gaudenzio, the first Bishop of Novara. The depictions of the Blessed Panacea are also notable.
