This spot marks the end of the western Boston Mountains portion of the OHT, where the path meets the river at what’s often called Woolum Ford. It’s a natural pause point if you’re thru-hiking west to east, as the trail descends through forested ridges and hollows to arrive here. Across the river on the far bank, there’s road access, a pit toilet, and a parking lot, making it a practical pick-up or drop-off point for day hikers and thru-hikers.
