Fort River Accessible Nature Trail is a 1.2 mile loop on hard-packed, wide gravel paths and wooden boardwalks through forests and wetlands This trail is universally accessible, enabling people of all abilities to explore the Silvio O. Conte National Fish & Wildlife Refuge. The gravel paths are a firm surface for wheelchairs and are lined with a wooden border so that the visually impaired can navigate the trail with a cane. On the wide boardwalk portions, there are ample overlooks and benches for you to rest, enjoy the scenery, and look out for birds and other animals that are abundant in the area. In particular, be on the lookout in the meadows for Kestrel Nest boxes, which provide a great opportunity to see these beautiful birds of prey.
