Even in Cerignola, music was made! In Via Pietro Mascagni n. 21, stands the House of Pietro Mascagni; it hosted the very famous composer from 1887 to 1892.
During his stay in the city, he composed the Cavalleria Rusticana and directed the local musical band. The Cavalleria Rusticana was staged at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome in 05/1890 and had an unprecedented success!

Mascagni lived in Cerignola between 1886 and 1895 with Lina Carbognani, whom he married in 1889, in the house on Via Assunta. He composed five operas: Cavalleria Rusticana, L'amico Fritz, I Rantzau, Guglielmo Ratcliff and Silvano.
