The highlight on the Melker Alpine foreland cycle route
The cycle path leads on the abandoned Banhtrasse the former local railway Ober-Grafendorf-Gresten, known under the colloquial name Krumpe - many arches (curves), more rarely as Grestner course, was originally a completely narrow gauge railway track with a track width of 760 mm (Bosnian gauge ) in the Lower Austrian Alpine foothills. It was a branch of the narrow gauge Mariazellerbahn. The section of Wieselburg on the Erlauf to Gresten was rebuilt to standard gauge and is used exclusively for freight, it is still operated today. The section between Wieselburg and Ruprechtshofen was decommissioned in February 2000, followed by the recruitment of sections Ruprechtshofen-Mank in December 2003 and finally Mank-Ober-Grafendorf in December 2010. The leg between Ober-Grafendorf and St. Margarethen is on Saturdays, Sundays - and public holidays operated in the context of nostalgia rides. Here the nostalgic locomotive Mh.6 and old restored passenger cars are used.
The section Bischofstetten - Mank was rebuilt into a bike path, the opening took place in September 2018. The track enjoys great popularity.

A nice idea with the cycle paths on the Krumpe. But it has to be said that it is infinitely annoying when cyclists are put in the wrong at every crossing field or other path with a cycle path end and then a new cycle path sign for every eventuality. Then you shouldn't brag about the many kilometers of cycle paths, but ... what do I know

Even though the Krumpe no longer exists, you can still explore this wonderful area by bike!
