      Oymapinar Reservoir

The Oymapinar dam wall is a double curved arch dam wall, i. the wall is curved horizontally and vertically. The arch dam has a total height of 185.40 m with a wall thickness between 30 m at the foot and 5 m at the crown. The dam is divided into 24 blocks with a width of 15 m each. The bottom joint is located 30 m below the former terrain surface. On the crown is a 7.50 m wide carriageway. A total of 676,000 m³ (according to other data 573,000 m³ of concrete) were installed in the building.

The four-turbine cavern power plant, located in an underground cavern in the rock, has a maximum output of 540 MW. This is 3% of total Turkish power generation.

The dam was built by the Turkish state and planned by the French engineering firm Coyne et Bellier from Paris. Main contractor was the company Bilfinger and Berger from Mannheim.

Before the tunnel passage through the rock is on the right side still a tunnel, which can be used on foot. It is relatively steep uphill and quite drafty there, but at the end of the tunnel you can see more than just light. The gateway to the world is a bit over the top, but the short climb is definitely worth it.

        Update October 2022

Unfortunately, access to the pedestrian breakthrough with a fantastic view has been made inaccessible.

And the ship at the vantage point of the dam is no longer there either.

But the stand for pomegranate juice and tea was new.

Crowds of tourists are still brought there by buses and jeeps.
