Mansard Trail travels through a red rock desert with views of rock formations and vistas. At the end of this moderate climb through sets of switchbacks, hikers can see unique petroglyphs from the Pueblo II period in an alcove. Native Americans refer to these sorts of petroglyphs as "rock writing" because they are a form of communication rather than a decoration.
