The municipal council of Tielen initially met in a room rented from a private individual. Around 1850 meetings were held in the rectory and around 1857 a 'municipal chamber' was built next to a school. This was converted into a teacher's house in 1871 and in 1875 it was decided to build a town hall. This was created in 1876-1877 after a design by Pieter Jozef Taeymans. It was built in an eclectic style with neoclassical elements. In 1977 Tielen merged into the merged municipality of Kasterlee and the function of town hall became superfluous. The building was then used for a number of municipal services and for the local local history circle. After a renovation, the building was opened in 2010 as a heritage house, with an archive and documentation center, the former council chamber that could still be used as a wedding hall, and a guild room.
