The Nelson Crag Trail is a spectacular, lesser-traveled trail that makes for a great, but more challenging alternative to the often over-crowded, easier Tuckerman Ravine Trail, but is still easier than the infamous Huntington Ravine Trail. This section of the Nelson Crag Trail is between an intersection with the Mount Washington Auto Road and the summit of Mount Washington is exposed and rocky. You traverse miles of open boulder fields, so it is a trail that might be easier on the knees and ankles if you go up it rather than down.
