Shaler Lake is actually fairly small and unspectacular, but the high country landscapes around it more than make up for it. A visit to this lakeshore is a great excuse to explore stunning Naturalist Basin, or to get away from the (relative) crowds that can develop here on a nice weekend day. Be alert for afternoon thunderstorms.
