The flood gates are the remains of the southern lock that formerly protected Elbląg against flooding. After the construction of a cascade of locks on the Nogat and its regulation, the gates are now permanently open. The clearance under the bridge is 6 m and allows motor yachts to pass
The width of the navigable span is 10 m and when entering the bridge, be careful and watch whether another yacht is approaching from around the bend, or use a signal.
