The Horreum (Latin for warehouse, storehouse) is the only part of Narbonne that has survived intact since antiquity. At the beginning of the 18th century, the cellar vaults were considered to be the substructure of the arena, before the interpretation that is still valid today as a storage room, presumably under a market hall, appeared in the 1930s. Excavations from 1938 to 1943 and 1967/68 confirmed this view. The vaults have been open to the public since 1976, and today they are organizationally attached to the Narbo Via Museum.[10]

The original walls date from the 1st century BC. It was located south of the forum on the north-south axis of the city. The present remains of the building are about five meters below today's ground level and consist of two vaulted passages perpendicular to each other with numerous side chambers in which supplies were stored, and a larger room at the beginning of one passage, near the current entrance, which was built later. The west gallery is 50 meters long, the north gallery 37.70 meters. With the side chambers, the galleries have a width of 7.25 meters, the vault height is 2.30 meters.[11]

The dating to the 1st century is based on excavation finds and on the abdominal technique with opus incertum and opus reticulatum.[10]
