Summit Trail offers views abound of badlands, buttes, and wildlife. This trail is strenuous and has little respite from the sun. Parts of the trail can be washed out in heavy rains and it can be hard to determine where the trail is at times.

At its western end, the Summit Trail connects with the Maah Daah Hey Trail. The Maah Daah Hey Trail is a 144-mile that covers a portion of western North Dakota.
